Delightful Words June 20, 2008

I came across a magical verse today in Psalms. Words so powerful they pierced deeply down into my heart. I’m sure I have read them before, however, never before have I “felt” them. Let me share them with you.

Psalms 18:19: “He brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.”

The Lord delights in me! My heart responds from a place of disbelief, yet, I trust what my Lord and Savior whispers to me from His word. This truth is a miracle when I think of the dark places in my heart. How can God, THE GOD of the universe, delight in ME. Little ole me…

Amazing and wonderful. Isn’t that what we all want…someone to delight in us? Isn’t that what all these movie stars, reality TV show stars, and other celebrities are clamoring for?  Attention. To be desired. To be wanted and loved.

Isn’t it Good News that we need look no further. God, the creator of heaven and earth, states Himself that He delights in us! We make God smile…what an awe inspiring vision to take with us through the day.

May you realize what a delight you are to God.

One Thing… June 11, 2008

Since January I have been using the “one thing” concept to pray for my family (refer to my very first post to this blog). It has turned out to be one of the most effective spiritual habits I have ever experienced. My prayer life is no longer stuck in a rut repeating the same requests over and over. I am using Beth Moore’s “Praying God’s Word Day by Day–A Year of Devotional Prayer” book, however, any devotional type book will do.

As I read each day’s thought and pray it for myself, then I simply pray it for each member of my family, too. This practice gives focus and direction to my prayer and enables me to concentrate on one or two aspects of God, His will for us, or some character trait to develop. With five children, four grandchildren and one on the way, parents, and spouse that adds up to a lot of people I love. I want my prayers to be effective and firmly rooted in God’s Word. This practice absolutely does the job!

Give it a try and see if it doesn’t put some excitment back in your own prayer life!
